Did you know that the Way of Saint James goes through Hernani?

Many people walk this route as a way of finding themselves, to keep a promise or simply as a different kind of holiday.

The reasons are very varied and the end is always the same, but the starting point and the route can be very different.

Two of the routes go through Hernani.

The Inland French Way

The Way of Saint James does pass through Hernani and one of its highlights is at the Humilladero de la Santa Cruz, which can be found at the back of the Town Hall.

Two different routes start from there and both lead to the same place, the town of Zerain. From there, the two options end the stage in Zegama.

  • From the Humilladero de la Santa Cruz towards the neighbourhood of El Puerto. From there, the route continues through the towns of Urnieta, Andoain, Villabona and Tolosa, where the Hernani-Tolosa stage ends. The next stage passes through Zerain and ends in Zegama. This route is a gentle stretch, running through the Oria river basin.
  • On the route to the right, in the direction of the Santa Barbara neighbourhood, the Saiatz route passes through the towns of Lasarte-Oria, Bidania, Ormaiztegi and, like the previous one, passes through Zerain and ends in the town of Zegama. It passes through areas of stunning scenic beauty, but it is a demanding route, given its difficulty, length and gradient.
