Santa Barbara
Much more than a hill
Starting from the centre of Hernani, you can enjoy the different areas of the Santa Barbara hill: its hermitage, its famous Carlist fort and, of course, all the natural elements that the hill itself has to offer.
There is a signposted 7.6-kilometre trail, which is not difficult and is always along a track. It can be followed on foot or by bicycle and is suitable for families. It is undoubtedly one of the best places to enjoy the Urumea Valley from a vantage point.
These are some of the points not to be missed on your trail:
- Hermitage of Santa Barbara: located next to the fort of the same name. As well as being a place of worship, it played a very important role for the people of Hernani, as it warned of the approach of heavy storms.
- Carlist Fort of Santa Barbara: this fort was used during the Carlist Wars and also during the Civil War.
- Climbing area: for those who enjoy this sport, there are a total of 124 routes of varying difficulties.
- Mini golf: the perfect way for children to enjoy some leisure time in the heart of nature and with unbeatable views.
- Restaurants and accommodation: where you can enjoy authentic Basque gastronomy, local specialities and relax surrounded by nature.
