Portu: a neighbourhood with a lot of history

Nowadays, it is hard to imagine that Hernani, in its early days, had a river port of great importance in Gipuzkoa and that galleons and small ships were even built in the Arbiza-Portu shipyards.

From that past, the area known as the “Portu auzoa” still remains today, with a population of around 250 inhabitants.

From that river port, still intact is the house that contained the market where fish were sold.

It is a neighbourhood that also has its own local festival, which is one of the most noteworthy in the town.
